Welcome to Project Give Thanks…

where America’s card artists supply Cancer Survivors with beautiful handcrafted cards.

Why Cancer Fighters Give Thanks: Your first thought may be that people diagnosed with cancer have nothing to be thankful about.  My name is Sonja and I was diagnosed with stage-2B breast cancer in May of 2010.  There’s hardly a moment that goes by where I’m not giving thanks for someone, something or everything!  During my year long cancer journey I’ve written close to a hundred thank you cards and I’m not finished yet.  More than 10 medical professionals and their teams worked to save my life.  I give thanks!  Several friends worked tirelessly on the front lines to keep me fed, medicated and healthy. I give thanks! Dozens of family members, friends, church members, and fellow Cancer Survivors lovingly supported me in various ways.  I continue to give thanks!

Free cards for Cancer Survivors: After receiving them, I place a large basket of beautiful handcrafted cards in the chemotherapy room (infusion room) where Cancer Survivors can help themselves.  What a gift this is!  It is also the perfect time to give it.  Chemo takes 2 to 4 hours to administer so there is time to write a note or two.

Empowering Cancer Fighters: Sending (and receiving) cards is very important to Cancer Survivors.  The act of giving thanks, remembering birthdays and comforting others is empowering.  When one feels well enough to share their journey or possibly help another, feelings of helplessness are pushed aside as spirits lift.

Everyone Gives Thanks! Cancer Survivors enjoy looking through the lovingly handcrafted cards while thinking of the special people who support them.  They appreciate the convenience and cost savings.  They also think of the artists who created the beautiful cards for them.  In turn, the card artists are thankful to be able to help cancer survivors; they know that their work and creativity is making a difference in someone’s life.  Recently I read the back of one artist’s card which said, “Stamps $7,000; Supplies $4,500; Handmade card from me: PRICELESS!  Time spent living our passion while helping others is doubly priceless!

Thank you for your time and attention. How wonderful that you’ve read all of this!!!  Please go to the top of the blog and click on Project Give Thanks for the details on how you can contribute.  If you are not a card artist you can contribute time, project expertise, postage stamps or best wishes.  Please leave a comment.  I look forward to hearing from you.

The Give Thanks blog is for everyone to enjoy.  I hope it will connect all of us with a nugget of thankfulness to carry throughout the day.  My signature “Hugs, Sonja” says I’m hugging you because I’m thankful for YOU!

With Heartfelt Gratitude and many Hugs,

Sonja Knaisch
